Itinerary for Across Southern Bhutan to Western Bhutan (10 Days / 9 Nights)
Day 1: Arrival at Gelephu (by land from India)
On arrival at Gelephu Gate, received by your guide & driver.
Overnight: Gelephu
Day 2: Gelephu – Shemgang
Drive to Shemgang, one of Bhutan’s least explored districts. Visit Shemgang Dzong and nearby heritage village. Explore Buli village (famous for rice fields, handicrafts, and local traditions).
Overnight: Shemgang
Day 3: Shemgang – Trongsa
Scenic drive through central Bhutan’s dense forests. Enroute, walk through village, visit old palace at Kungarabten and a nunnery.
Overnight: Trongsa
Day 4: Trongsa – Phobjikha via Pele La
Morning visit to Trongsa Dzong (historic seat of Bhutanese Kings). Explore Trongsa Museum (Ta Dzong). After lunch, drive to Phobjikha valley via Pele La Pass with views of snow-capped peaks. Enroute visit Chendibji Chorten.
Overnight: Gangtey
Day 5: Sightseeing in Phobjikha
Morning visit to Gangtey Monastery. Walk through nature trail in Phobjikha valley and visit black necked crane center.
Overnight: Gangtey
Day 6: Gangtey – Punakha via Wangdiphodrang
Visit Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple) enroute. Explore Punakha Dzong, set at the confluence of Phochu and Mochu rivers. Short walk to Suspension bridge and nearby villages (depending on time).
Overnight: Punakha
Day 7: Punakha – Thimphu
Drive to Thimphu (3 hours) via Dochu La (3100m) with scenic panoramic views of Himalayas. Visit Buddha Dordenma, Takin preserve, and craft market. Evening leisure in Thimphu.
Overnight: Thimphu
Day 8: Thimphu – Paro
Drive to Paro (1 hour). Visit Paro Dzong, National Museum (Ta Dzong). Evening village walk in Paro valley.
Overnight: Paro
Day 9: Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)
Early morning hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). Return to Paro for last day shopping.
Overnight: Paro
Day 10: Paro – Departure
Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure flight.
