Punakha Winter Trek Itinerary (10 Days / 9 Nights)
Day 1: Arrival in Paro – Transfer to Thimphu
Arrive at Paro International airport (stunning Himalayan views on the flight). Warm welcome by your guide. Drive to Thimphu (1.5 hours). Evening stroll around Thimphu town and clock tower square.

Day 2: Thimphu Cultural Exploration
Morning visit to Memorial Chorten, Buddha Dordenma statue, Changangkha 12th century temple. Afternoon visit to Takin preservation center, Textile and Folk Heritage Museum.

Day 3: Thimphu – Punakha
Scenic drive across Dochu La Pass (3100m), panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas and 108 Druk Wangyel Chorten. Descend to lush Punakha valley. Visit Punakha Dzong, walk across the long suspension bridge, and short hike to Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple) through rice paddies.

Day 4: Trek Start – Punakha to Limbukha
Trek begins near Punakha Dzong with gradual climb through villages and chirpine forests. Arrive at Limbukha village known for storytelling traditions.

Day 5: Limbukha – Chungsakha – Sha Gonpa
Trek through rhododendron and oak forests. Visit Chungsakha village, home to a temple dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley (The Divine Madman). Continue to Sha Gonpa, a remote monastery.

Day 6: Sha Gonpa – Samtengang
Gradual descends through forests and terraced fields. Beautiful views of valleys, lake and villages. Arrive at Samtengang village with picturesque campsite near lake.

Day 7: Samtengang – Wangdiphodrang (Trek & Drive)
Short downhill trek to road head. Drive to Wangdiphodrang town. Explore Wangdiphodrang Dzong (reconstructed) and local markets. Drive back to Paro (4-5 hours) via Dochu La Pass.

Day 8: Paro Sightseeing
Visit Paro Rinpung Dzong, National Museum (Ta Dzong), Kyichu Lhakhang (7th century). Evening stroll around Paro town.

Day 9: Paro – Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery)
Iconic 5-6 hours hike to Taktsang Monastery (3120m) perched on a cliff. Afternoon: Free time for shopping or traditional hot stone bath.

Day 10: Departure from Paro
After breakfast at hotel, transfer to airport for departure.
